The Beauty of Travel

To say I like to travel would be a lie, I LOVE to travel. It gives me an opportunity to see new places, to become inspired, and to broaden my horizons. I am still SO passionate about architecture, so Brad and I really enjoy visiting the landmarks in different cities. And call me crazy, but there are SO many times that I’ll see a location and think, “Oh wow…I wish I could bring this home and use it as a location for a bridal or an engagement session.”

For example, the graffiti below…WOW WOW WOW!!!! I seriously flipped when I saw this location. I just kept telling Brad over and over how much I wished I could bring this home with me.

And yes, the colors were truly this vivid. Isn’t it absolutely beautiful?! In my eyes, this is truly art and takes lots of talent.

Couldn’t you see a pure white gown in front of this location? I love the play between something pure and innocent in a location such as this.

And there was literally graffiti EVERYWHERE in downtown Los Angeles. I was blown away by the creativity!

This is an incredible project designed by Joel Breaux + his partner. It’s known as the Vortex Plaza if you’re interested in checking it out.

My understanding of the Vortex Plaza is that it reflects those moments of emergency and release of help from Paramedics, Police, Firefighters, and so many others who dedicate their lives to saving others.

Joel Breaux + his partner are known for their ability to manipulate text and graphics and make a TRULY powerful statement.

So, you will never believe what this is. It is a high school; yes a place where 16, 17, & 18 year olds learn. I wonder if there are cheerleaders and football players at this school…

This glass and steel structure above is the entrance to the school; Brad and I were amazed….we just kept saying “Wow” over and over again. It truly is a beautiful building and I couldn’t imagine the intensity of learning here.

And the Cathedral of the Angels is the architecture featured above. It’s an incredible Church; the power and calming energy as soon as you walk in the door is overwhelming. I find it so amazing the way that architecture can affect people’s behavior & emotions.

Just as I walked past this window, I realized that when I was at the perfect angle, it looked as if the Angels were touching the District 9 building.

And the lighting in the church…was so surreal.

This is one of my favorite moments in the details…there were large…LARGE fabric banners hung in the back of the church. And this image is absolutely stunning.

And I saved this image of the church for last because I was so touched by the moment. This man, kneeling down, walked…on his knees…all the way down the church aisle to the crucifix. When he reached the crucifix, he bowed his head and he prayed as he rested his hands on the statue of the Lord. It was the most touching moment to experience.

And here I am!:)I was photographing inside of the Vortex Plaza’s rotating center and couldn’t get over the reflections.:)

FAQ: What are Gallery Wraps?

I love the sleek, contemporary feel of the Gallery Wraps; the way the canvas wraps around the frame and creates a modern look for a print. When I first decided to bring new products into my line, the Gallery Wrap was a definite must. And although I love the way that a traditional 16×20 framed print of a bride looks at a wedding reception, I also admire the gallery wrap that says she is simply modern.

I have had SO many people stop me and say….”Is that a painting?!” And it does look that way, like a piece of art..except that it’s a print.

I absolutely love the way the gallery wraps allow the print to show all the way around the frame; the detail of the print showing on all four sides.

By the way, thank you Morgan for being such an incredible model for the photograph above. Without this photo, I wouldn’t be able to show others 1. Bridals CAN be done at night 2. The way a deep red or high contrast color truly POPS on the gallery wraps.

And thank you, Ellen, for being such a wonderful client. She was my “mystery bride” when I posted this silhouette of her prior to her wedding day. Her bridal  portrait made such a beautiful canvas print.

If you don’t know this by now, then let me tell you, I am definitely into the details: the way a binding is sewn, or the quality of a cover material, and in this case the corners and the way the image covers the sides and corners of the wrap.

The canvas makes a texture look particular interesting and REALLY come to life!

Feel free to continue browsing through the products section of my blog and continue following as I post more items in the future. Have a great day!

Cream color ponies and crisp apple strudels, door bells and sleigh bells and schitznel with noodles, Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings, these are a few of my favorite things….

Well…not my favorite things, but Julie Andrews definitely likes them. However, while working on an UPCOMING project that I have in the works…I was prompted to identify some of my favorite things. And after noticing how completely random they are…I decided to share.

  • Leather-Soled Cowboy Boots
  • Palm Trees that silhouette the Ocean at Sunset
  • Konzuk
  • Red Fitted Dresses with ASymmetrical Straps
  • Cookies & Cream Ice Cream…mmmmmm

Moments Like These…

As the stormclouds started to fill the sky and the day became gloomy, I started to worry that we weren’t going to be able to follow through with Mariah’s session….on her birthday! We’ve had this session scheduled for MONTHS now, and there was no way I was going to miss it. And Erica (Mariah’s AMAZING mom) wasn’t either. So…we did it anyway. And I’m so happy we did…

Although primarily what you see on my blog are weddings, what I love the most about what I do really isn’t the type of work but the moments. Whether it’s a glimpse of love, laughter or even…at times, sadness….these memories are the reason I LOVE photography! And I feel like Mariah’s session contained so many special moments of growth and learning.

Like the moment when she first felt rain…or noticed her reflection in the glass. These are SUCH special moments and I’m so happy I was there to capture them as she grows.

She doesn’t seem to mind spending her birthday full of attention, balloons, and cupcake cookies, does she?!!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE her here….she was SO intrigued by her reflection, the glass, and the light bouncing off of the museum.

This is Henry….POOR Henry. I think she loves him TOO much sometimes…lol:):):)

And yet another sweet moment of simply Mariah…:)

If you know me…I mean really know me, then you know how much I cry. Whether I’m happy or sad, or tired, or excited…yes, I don’t hesitate to shed a tear. I have a soft heart even though I try to hide it at times by being strong….so don’t be surprised if we’re working together and you see me shed a tear or two. It’s just the way I am…

To more tears of joy and more special moments held still,

Catherine

Days Like Today…

Days like today, I realize that I am fortunate. I am blessed and I am loved. Days like today, despite the bad, when things don’t go just as planned (because everyone KNOWS how much I love to plan)….and when there’s disappointment and heartache, those are days that I am challenged to focus on the positive.

When people say, “Everything happens for a reason,”…I have a hard time believing them when I don’t quite know what that reason is yet. And when they say, “Out of all Bad, there is Good….” it’s hard to wait for the good when you’re as impatient as I am!

But today, for me…there was good.

I had two wonderful meetings today; both with clients that I am ecstatic to begin working with. I am thankful everyday for the couples and clients that I have had the honor of photographing.

And I am content…because I have love. When I came home today, I found this.:)….A BEAUTIFUL bouquet of not red (They know me so well) but ORANGE + YELLOW roses!:)My heart is filled. No matter happens in the world, I am content. Because I have an amazing family, wonderful friends, and an incredible man who truly live the definition of love.
